Playboi Carti began rapping at a young age under the name Sir Cartier in 2011 and changed his name to Playboi Carti soon after. Many of his early songs are no longer available online. He was signed to Awful Records in 2014 after meeting producer Ethereal. Ethereal is credited with helping Carti find his sound.
